death penalty
The death penalty is a just and appropriate punishment for only the worst people. The only time the death penalty is put on a person is in the case of murder. That means that the death penalty is not used loosely. When a person commits a crime like murder they have given up their right to life by taking that right from someone else. At that point it is their moral duty to repay what they have taken. The friend and families of the victims should also be included since they had to go through the pain of losing a loved one. It is necessary to ask ourselves, how those people would feel if the person that killed someone they cared about was doing much to account for their loved one’s life? overall the death penalty has purpose and is a necessary level of punishment.
Choosing to get rid of the death penalty would be an unnecessary and ill-made choice. not having the death penalty could cause a rise in criminal activity because people would no longer feel the need to worry about having a fair punishment. Another cause to keep the death penalty would be to keep the public from worrying about convicted murderers still being alive. Even with one of these people locked away for life people feel uneasy about people who have done things like that still being alive. A final reason that keeping the death penalty is a necessary punishment would be the peace it brings to the victims family. overall there are good reasons to keep the death penalty.

brave new world project
Brave New World is a dystopian world where there are no viviparous parents, and none of the same morals we have in today’s society. The Director, a very influential person, is shown as being very foil the students he teaches. The DHC is a very influential person in Brave New World, has a lot of power, and does not have any natural caring traits for other people; the students on the other hand don’t have power over anyone except the lower castes. The DHC is of the same cast, and has the exact same knowledge the students will when they are done with the schooling they are getting. It is even possible that one of the students could take over the Director’s position. Although the Director has a higher position and has a more respected position, I believe he has quite a bit in common with the students; as well as having quite a lot different from them showing his demeanor, and therefore the demeanor of BNW’s society.
In the scene where a group of children are electrocuted for their conditioning, the director is shown as detached, emotionless, and as he is supposed to be according to the norms of BNW. In the second chapter of BNW the Director reacts to the babies being electrocuted by laughing while saying “we can electrify the whole strip of floor” while the students remained silent(page 21, Huxley). This show’s how uncaring and emotionless toward other people he is in that he finds things that will have a lasting negative effect on other people to be humorous. Another example would be the way he reacted when a student made a wrong comment; he replied to the student saying “Ass! hasn't it occurred to you that that an epsilon environment as well as an Epsilon heredity?”(page 14, Huxley). Huxley used the director’s character to show the way a citizen of BNW is supposed to be; before bringing more flawed characters into the story.
The Director, a man of high position, is shown to be a very influential person in the way his presence affects the students; as well as in the way he does not allow anyone to question him. Throughout the tour he gives the students of the hatchery and conditioning center, all of the students act respectful and take note of every word he speaks. Another example would be the way a student reacted to an explanation he gave. On page 23 after explaining why they do not condition people to love the country anymore huxley describes the way this student responds this way, “‘I see’ said the student, and was silent, lost in admiration.”; showing directly how the students see him as admirable. Although the Director is not seen through most of the book; his role is an important one both in the society of Brave New World, and in getting a better understanding of the book as a reader.
Huxley, the writer of Brave new world, used the characters of the students to foil the character of the Director through their similarities and differences. The students are shown as inexperienced and with little authority for their class to bring out the fact that the Director is depicted as a man with lots of experience and authority. Since the Director is supposed to be an emotionless and uncaring, which is brought out in the way the students are sensitive to certain subjects, and silent while the director speaks. Overall the way the director is portrayed alongside the students brings out the good and bad qualities in him.
