Socialization is the process in which people are taught what almost everything. socialization begins at a very young age starting when a person’s parents teach them small things like not to touch the stove because it will burn them or not to stand on the table. as a person gets older though the socialization they receive becomes more in depth and subtle, for example we are taught to act or not to act one way or another in front of certain people. Socialization also shapes what a person is like quite a bit. What a person see’s and who they spend time with effects their likes and dislikes through the things that the people in your life might talk about or even the way they react to things. overall socialization has a huge effect on a person.
In the mask essay I wrote about how I have been socialized and about types of socialization. I wrote about how I have been socialized as an american and how that has taught me to think. Another thing I wrote about was how I have been socialized as an older sibling and how I have been socialized as someone of the middle class. The biggest point I hit when writing my essay was the type of socialization which I called “dark clouds”; dark clouds are the types of socialization which may seem negative or hard to take at first but that have a positive effect later.
The mask project we did this year was a lot more than creating a mask and painting funny symbols on it. we started out this project when Matt asked us how much we thought society affected who we become as a person. Most of us (including myself) said we thought that it didn’t or shouldn’t have much of or any effect on what a person becomes. We watched videos that showed specific examples of how socialization affects an individual. Further than that we looked at the way people act and how they are socializing others. Starting the essay we were told to think about our present and our past to come up with things in our own lives that caused us to become who we are today. Doing some of our own research on the topic everyone came up with their own analysis on what type of affect socialization has had on them. Later we each made masks put emblems, words, or pictures that in some way represented what our essay was about. The process in which we did the mask essay was difficult and long but it was fun and was full of useful information.
So far in Animas I have been proud of and a few things I need to improve upon. something I am proud of so far this year has been my work I have put on my work. so far this year I have worked fairly good on the mask project and other projects in the other classes. For instance in digital arts I have completed building my own website portfolio for school. Something I have not done well so far is turn in my work. so far this year I have not been very good at remembering to turn the work I have done in has not been my strongest suit, for example in physics I completely forgot to turn in several pages from a project. Overall there are some things I need to work on and some things I have done fairly well.
